25 Years After 9/11: Canada’s National Security Culture and the Evolving Terrorism Threat
OTTAWA — September 9, 2026 — Twenty-five years after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 transformed the global security landscape, Canadian national-security experts will hold a press conference at the Parliamentary Press Gallery to examine how the threat has evolved and whether Canada is prepared for the security challenges ahead.
The speakers will address how terrorism and radicalization have changed since 9/11; whether Canada’s intelligence and national-security architecture has kept pace with an increasingly complex threat environment; and the continuing threat from jihadi terrorism, alongside foreign interference, espionage, online radicalization and other forms of violent extremism.
The press conference will also examine a broader question: Has Canada developed the national security culture necessary to identify, understand and respond to emerging threats while protecting democratic freedoms and maintaining public confidence?
The media availability precedes “25 Years After 9/11: Terrorism, Security and the Changing Canadian Landscape,” a national forum taking place in Ottawa on September 10. The forum brings together former senior intelligence officials, counterterrorism practitioners, researchers and policy experts to assess what Canada has learned since 9/11 and the challenges likely to define the next 25 years.
